Office of the Deputy Secretary
Counselor to the Deputy Secretary Matt A. Mayer resigned on May 1, 2006.
Within the Department of Homeland Security, the Deputy Secretary serves as chief operating officer, overseeing the day to day functioning of the Department, which is the second largest operation in the Federal government, next to the Department of Defense. As such, the Counselor to the Deputy Secretary is considered the senior advisor and staff lead charged with representing the Deputy Secretary and implementing his agenda.
US-VISIT Program Office
Director Jim Williams announced his resignation on June 5, 2006. Deputy Director Robert Mocny has been appointed Acting Director of the US-Visit program.
The US-Visit program office was included in the Executive Office vacancies due to its identity as a major program initiative of the Department with a direct report to the Secretary's office.
